So here we are having our first snow event of the season. Finally, we are getting a white winter. I don't know about you, but I like the change of seasons and if it is going to be cold, I would prefer it be snowy. Besides, snow is a good insulator. Anyone who has ever spent the night (or day) in a snow cave or an igloo knows that the temperature difference between outside and inside can be as much as 60 degrees. If you have a pad to keep you dry, you are in good shape.
The snow also makes for more fun outside. Whether you like to ski, hike, tobaggon or just play, winter is just not the same without snow. And there are many different types of snow. Dry snow is generally called "powder" and is you ski or board, there is nothing better. Wet snow is heavy and is often called slush. Snow that falls as balls is called graupel, but I've always referred to it as "corn snow", becuase to me it looks like little kernels of corn.
Snow flakes come in a variety of shapes and sizes also, depending on the atmospheric conditions. It is not always the hexagonal shape. Snow can be little rods of ice, which is what I expect we will have a lot of today.
So, drive safely. Slow down and take extra time travelling. Better to arrive safely than not at all. And most of all, ENJOY the SNOW!
